There are many excellent resources online that can help you maintain an active and varied exercise regimen and connect with PD communities locally and around the U.S.

Mild/Moderate Care Partners Support Group

June meeting on June 3rd at 3:30 pm
Description: A new  Care Partners Support group formed to address the needs of those partners who are caring for someone with mild to moderate symptoms.
Facilitated by Roslyn Kleinsinger, LCSW. All care partners are welcome.
Pre-registration will be required. Meeting link will be posted to the Mild/Moderate Google Group.

Young Onset & Young at Heart PD Group

Meetings will be every 2nd week starting Friday, May 8th from 10:00 am-11:00 am, and alternating between Friday mornings at 10 am, and Saturday mornings at 11:30 am.
Description: Come share, laugh and learn, with PD Active’s Young Onset PD (YOPD) group. This group is for you if you were diagnosed with PD in your early fifties or younger, or if you are simply young at heart. Spouses/partners are always welcome. One silver lining to “all this” is that we get to have PD Active’s first ever virtual meetup, and you can even attend in your pajamas. All you need is a phone, computer, or tablet. Heart Circle

The first Saturday of the month: June meeting on Saturday, June 6th from 10 am – 12 pm
Description: The relief and sweetness of sharing our lives with PD. We join together to open our hearts and emotions, using guided meditation, discussion, and a chance to speak directly from the heart. Open to anyone with PD. Facilitated by Scott Holloway. PD Salon

The second Sunday of the month: June Meeting on Sunday June 12th from 3 pm – 5 pm.
Description: An opportunity for those in the PD community to informally share writing, other art forms, and information about living with Parkinson’s Disease in a mutually supportive environment. All are welcome. to attend and observe, but presentations by people with PD will have priority. Phil Miller, Gary Turchin, and Herb Heinz,  are the PD Salon co-hosts. Boxing

Albany RSB (Rock Steady Boxing) 

Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:00 am-11:30 am
Description: Rock Steady Boxing is the first program in the country dedicated to using boxing to condition for optimal agility, speed, muscular endurance, accuracy, hand-eye coordination, footwork, and overall strength to defend against the opponent — Parkinson’s. Coach Daniel Burkhardt teaches exercises varying in purpose and form that share one common trait: they are rigorous and intended to extend the capabilities of the participant.

Dance for PD®

Thursday from 10:30 am-11:45 am
Classes combine elements of modern dance, ballet, social dancing & improvisation to create an enjoyable, stimulating non-pressured artistic experience. Presented in association with the Mark Morris Dance Group. Open to all; no dance experience is necessary. Classes via Zoom.

PWR!Moves

PWR!Moves®

Tuesdays from 11 am-12 pm
Taught by Petra Fibrichova
Description: PWR!Moves is a progressive, neuroplasticity-based aerobic exercise developed to push back against the main PD symptoms such as small and slow movements, stooped posture, balance problems, gait changes. We start slow with mindful movement, then elevate our heart rate with 30 min of aerobic exercise working on big steps, coordination, balance. We continue with a few strengthening exercises on the mat and finish with stretching and relaxation. Tai Chi

Tai Chi for Parkinson’s- ABC Program

Description: This class taught by Otto Dittmer, is a mind-body, low-impact movement practice that has been shown to reduce balance impairments in people with Parkinson’s with additional benefits of improved functional capacity and reduced falls. Be Heard! Discussion Group

Tuesdays from 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm
Description: Classes are online right now for safety reasons – please email ktwarren@gmail.com to be added to the Zoom meeting! Groups begin with conversation warm-ups led by KT Warren and Ed Silberman, followed by each student telling personal stories on a common theme (for example, you might be asked to tell of a job you held, a place you traveled, or someone important to you). Speakers will be coached by KT for volume, speech clarity, and vocal color. You’ll practice real conversational skills, in community. Put your Be Heard! knowledge to work and build your community in conversation!

Be Heard! Voice for Parkinson’s– ABC Program

Description: This class taught by KT Warren, is like a vocal yoga class. Using a blend of vocal and physical exercises based in theater work, qi gong, yoga and music, Be Heard! weaves a meditative flow to encourage participants to be fully present. Mindful Movement: You, Yoga and Parkinson’s

Description: Yoga is one of the most beneficial complementary therapies for Parkinson’s disease, helping to increase flexibility; improve posture; loosen tight muscles; build (or rebuild) confidence; and, through these benefits, enhance the quality of life. Pamela Perry and Aileen Kim will alternate teaching the class; they have both been long-term volunteers for PD Active’s Yoga for PD classes. This class is not just for people with Parkinson’s. Friends, family, caregivers, and anyone else are welcome! Suggested donation $10-$15. No one turned away for lack of funds.  This class is being offered via Zoom. Yoga Video Chanel

Suzanne Drolet (the instructor for Be Well: Yoga for People with PD) has been working with people with PD for over 10 years and her Mom had Parkinson’s, too. Sessions are $100/hour. $35 consultation fee is waived with a package of three sessions.
